Help please:: 3000gph Return Pump Question

Need some advice....

First, tank statistics....
240 gallon display tank.... 40 gallon sump.... 6 ft head height from pump to display plus some piping run. My sump is in a sump room separate from the display tank so I have about 5 ft of horizontal 2" PVC run and 2 90 degree elbows before the vertical up to the display tank inlet through the wall adjoining the sump room and display tank room.

Second, I want 2000-3000 gallons per hour turn over into the DT from the sump.

Finally, I prefer a pump in the sump since that's the way my system is already plumbed.

So.... what return pump do you recommend? I had a Jebao DCT15000.... as many people have posted .... it was great.... right up until it DIED. I've had two Jebao's die. Will never buy from them again.

Next, I tried a Current USA eFlux 6011.... it "works" but the damn thing shuts off every 20-40 minutes and then restarts itself. I'll be returning that this weekend.

I dont have experience with all the pumps u listed but I know I love my fluval sp6. If I had to do it over again I wouldn't buy anything else

You might want to rethink your flow rate. 2000 gph is 50 g per minute. That's a heck of a lot to put through a 40 gal sump. It will likely be pretty noisy.

Return pumps are not really the way to get flow. Rule of thumb is to size your pump based on the flow needed by your equipment: skimmer, reactors, etc. No bigger. In tank power heads or closed loop are for flow.

40 gallon sump on a 240 gallon? Time to upgrade that sump bud.

I use a Deepwater Aquatics BLDC12 with about 11ft of head. Works well

Why so much?
Thats just a waste of electricity/overkill IMO..
1000GPH is PLENTY...

Thanks. I went with the Fluval SP6.

I understand it's a ton of flow. I've gone with super high flow and have had great results... so I'm sticking with it.

Fluval or Laguna if they have one where the specs fit the bill.

If u don't have one I would install a valve on your return. I'm pretty certain u won't be running it full blast. It will let u adjust the flow if u do find it to be loud going through the sump. The sp6 is a powerful pump.

Btw, I like more flow through the sump then most people. I have about 8 to 10 times turnover on both of my systems. I tried a little less but ended up turning it back up because I liked it better.

I do think once u get over about 1,200 gph u will start to hear it going through the 40 breeder, but u may be able to get more depending how u have the sump lay out.
