I just checked my tank and I saw my flame angel nipping at my birdsnest he has stripped it like bark from a tree:( he has never messed with corals before what can I do? is there a trap I can get to catch him? I just can't believe it out of the blue one of my favorite fish.

Yeah, it kind of sucks. My Flame will nip at just my Xenia, Green Zoas & Poclopora that I've seen. I've tried to get him out, but he's been too smart. I put a trap in, but he wouldn't go near it. Good luck.

feed the fish more, it might help.
I was thinking about that and last week my ammonia was -.25 and its usually always 0 so I cut back feeding mysis and brine and only fed spectrum until I could do a water change.which I did. so I guess I will feed them more and get a trap. man reefkeeping is stressful

welcome to the world of dwarf angels....you took a chance putting him in there in the first place.

Try a clear glass to trap him between the tank glass and the glass cup; the fish cannot see the glass cup making it easier to coax them into it. Worked with my Mystery Wrasse!

I know I took a chance but the last year he has never done anything like this if he had he would have never been moved over to the 180.
thank you I will try that.

use a pint glass, and try to coax him into one of the lower corners of the tank, and try to get him in between the pint glass and the tank wall. This would be my first attempt to catch him before you start ripping stuff out of your tank.

Another method is to put a specmien container into the tank, without food, near the sandbed, and the fish can explore it for a few days. Once the fish become accustomed to it not being a trap, then place a small piece of food in there, wait for the Flame to take the bait, then close the trap up and catch it that way.

You reduced your feeding, I see. Obviously, he doesn't share your concern over water quality. Keeping their bellies full reduces ( but DOES NOT Eliminate) this behavior. Two choices: Go back to feeding more. Or tear the rock apart & take him out.

I would frag off the remaining live part of the coral and up the feeding for the fish. An auto feder would help you. Small feedings more often.

What ever happened? I went to youtube and searched the soda bottle trap and made one. I added some pellets and when I came back 15 minutes later, the flame angel was in it. I had tried feeding more, but mine didn't care, he just loved the taste of the corals.

Excellent idea. NO dwarf angel is totally reef safe. Forever.
