Help Please, sick Kuda

I purchased two Kuda tank raised seahorses a week ago. The tank I placed them in has been setup for about 8 months. The tank has a sand bed with live rock. The tank has a jawfish, 1 blue hermit crab and several snails. My problem is I noticed tonight that the SH was not eating, and upon closer inspection has a place close to it's stomach with greenish colored spots. I have included a picture. What is it, & what can I do?

jawfish are terrible tank-mates for horses, they might have caused your little girl too much stress. It looks as though she is very skinny too. How much are you feeding these guys? I'd say 2 times a day is a bare minimum.

It looks like vibriosis...get the SH into a 10 gal hospital tank with an airline and some artificial hitches, get the temp down to at least 68*F, and treat it with Furan2.

You wrote...May I please have some more info:

Tank size:45 gal. tall tank

Temp:72F

Parameters:
Nitrate: 20
Nitrite: 0
ALK: 280
PH: 7.8
The SH have been eating very good since I got them, well after the first night. I have been feeding them 3 times a day. I have been feeding them PE misis. I didn't know when I saw them if they were skinny or just young. I really know very little of how they should look, even though I have studied about them quite a bit. Today the spot on his side is not as light in color as it was yesterday. I can not tell if the green spots are in the holes still or not, and I could not tell if the holes were normal SH indention holes or sore holes (does that make sense). No, I did not Qt them..... I know shame on me. :( Do I still need to put it in the hospital tank w/Furan2 you think?

lol maybe i was wrong about him being skinny, didn't realize he was young. I know they can be naturally scrawny. Yeah, follow through with the qt and treatments.

Am I being punished because I didn't QT or something else?

I tried to give you what you requested, I even sent a picture, so why have I not received more help? :crazy1: What is the Furan-2 for? and my Furan-2 expired 11/2009 should I still use it (I can not get more for 4 days at least). Could I use Formalin, Primafix, Melafix, or Bio-Bandage ? Those are what I have. Please help I don't want to lose my baby.

furan 2 is used to eradicate bacterial infections. It will help to get your little horsey get back to normal. it's really the only way to get rid of infections. I would not use the expired stuff, she may have to wait until then. Keep her in the DT until you get new stuff. Set up a small QT w/ an HOB filter, using furan 2. Don't run carbon on it. As it will remove the furan. Hope she gets better.

Namaxas's advice was spot on. The Furan-2 is for a bacterial infection (vibriosis), so is the reduction in temperature (definitely needed).
The formalin won't treat bacteria, I have doubts about the ability of pimafix to as well, and the melafix can actually further stress the seahorse, so they won't substitute in this case. Bio-bandage can be helpful for vibriosis, but is a topical, and not indicated in this case. There is no hard rule for expired meds, and it also greatly depends on the environment the meds have been kept in, but you should be able to get new Furan-2 from your LFS pretty readily. Furan-2 should be used for 10 days at the dose described on the package.

FWIW, I would move the seahorse to the HT now, so you can start reducing temperature.

lol, hope i was some help. I try to keep informed on everything, so i'm not exactly a seahorse-expert. But, if you need any help with corals, i'm always ready to help.
