Im new to this I was told to do a freshwater dip on a couple of tangs(Purple and Scopas). But was never told how long. Can someone Please help me. Thanks!

I've done it a few times and there are different opinions.

I was told to leave them in the fresh water for a few minutes but to take them out if it looks like they are having trouble. Match the pH and temp as close as you can.

Yeah wanted to make sure that the rest of the fish didnt get it.

Also maybe you might know I have a 55 gal that had 3 clowns and I got up to feed them they looked fine when I went back a few hours later I had 2 dead and one looking pretty rough. They all had like a slimy looking white film on them. Any ideas as to what might it might have been? I also have 4 Chromis in that tank and they haven't shown any signs of problems or anything.

Sorry to hear about your losses.

I'm not sure what happened to your clowns.

There is a disease forum here on Reef Central...maybe ask there?

Sounds like your clowns had Brooklynella. My guess is you recently purchased them, as many sold in LFS have the disease and dont even make it a week in the fish store. Also putting tangs with obvious signs of ich in a tank is asking for trouble. Can you quarentine them? Ich can get into your tank and survive for awhile even without showing signs of infection.

What is a good size tank to quarentine in? I have a 10 gal and a 30 gal. The 30 has crushed coral and a couple of fish (lion fish, Shark) but those can be moved if need be.

If you have fish with ich and can catch them you will be able to treat them with medication in a quarentine tank. Size really depends on the amount/size of fish. Shark in a 30 gallon?
