I have had a purple firefish for one week in a tall 15 gallon aquarium.
He is the only fish in the tank. He is eating well. I bought this fish last week from liveaquaria.com.
I really wanted a pair of firefish. I waited to see if a pair would pop up on liveaquaria's diver's den, but this never happened.
So I bought a single purple firefish. I got him last week. Then guess what pops up on the divers den tonight. A beautiful firefish pair of course: a red firefish pair from the maldives.
I bought them and they're comming in on wednesday.
The pair are going into the 15 gallon aquarium where the purple fire fish is currently residing. This is for certian.
The question is what to do about the purple firefish.
Do I risk mixing the two different firefish species in a small 15 gallon tank?
Or do I take the purple firefish out of the 15 and put him in my 55:
The 55 has lots of rocks, sand and macro algae, so there's an abundance of hiding places, but it also has some fish I am concerned might harass the purple firefish: royal gramma (2.5"), hawiian fancy bicolor anthias (3"), flame hawlkfish (2.5"), algae blenny (4").
The gramma sometimes fights with the anthias; to date, the hawlkfish and blenny have been very peaceful.
What should I do? Any advice is greatly apreciated.
Also, the 15 has a very tight fitting glass canopy, whereas the 55 does not, and I dont really want to get one just for this tiny purple firefish.
Tough call, eh?
Much thanks for your advice.
