That looks pretty nasty. Like a cut or sting that is now infected. Did this just pop up? Or did it start out not looking so bad and has gotten progressively worse?

It could be a cut as he's been battling w my Scope tang. I noticed it Tuesday and it looks a little worse today. I just got more Stress Coat and the Selcon is on the way. But how do I treat the infection being I am unable to get him out of the tank for QT.

You can't treat him in the main with antibiotics. So you can either try and catch him (sticky at top of forum) or feed him a vitamin rich diet and hope he makes it.
Since he's been fighting with your tang you may have to separate them otherwise this will probably continue.

Gizmo,

I had something very similar happen to my purple tang... He's in a large tank (180 g) so I couldn't get him out for treatment. I medicated the whole tank with PraziPro.

I lost several fish within weeks before starting PraziPro... Their symptoms were nothing like the purple's... Fine one day... Not acting right the next day... And dead the next. But things stabilized with the PraziPro and (surprisingly) the purple pulled through.

Mine was stung by my tube anemome he looked similar, but all over his body. He made a full recovery. I would have removed him and treated but he is the smaller of 2 purple tangs and I knew I wouldn't be adding him back safely if I removed him.

Am not an expert on fish diseases... No one could suggest a cause or cure for my problem and searching through Reef Central I found several references to parasites causing similar symptoms. The PraziPro seemed to work for me.

That's my problem, My tank is a 180 and I am unable to get the tang out. Its going to be even more difficult and costly once I finish my 380 gal tank install.

I know folks have used prazipro in a display tank, but I'd be really reluctant to use it on a reef tank frankly. If you cannot catch this fish, I'd be inclined to let it be and hopefully heal on its own. Hard to tell for sure from the photo but it does not look like a parasite to me - more bacterial or fungal.

That looks more like a bacterial infection to me and I would treat with Maracyn plus or Furan 2. Im a big fan of prazi pro but this med is primarily used for to eradicate flukes not bacterial problems. I would get him out and treat him in a qt tank .

That is the healing process from what looks like an impact wound and perhaps got infected. When tangs fight they literally use the "tang" near thier tails to stab other fish. Also may have darted into some live rock.
I have treated most injuries with minute doses of gel based antibiotics with the best results. Gel tek for the win.

Thanks I will try anything as long as it's reef safe. I have been trying to get him out but no luck. It tiki 2 months to get the last fish out I fear I might not have that long if tang is infected.

If you can't get to the fish ild just dial in the parameters and cross my fingers. Another route is feeding with food soaked in dilluted broad spectrum antibiotic. I've seen this work on afew fish, but you cannot broadcast feed like that.
