So my new small marron clown jumped in the over flow on my All Glass 180, i can see him with a mirror. do I need to get him out of there in a hurry. He was running from my older Marron clown that i have been working on pairing him with. Or will he be fine and appreciate the rest in there. Any thoughts??

he'll be alright in there for a little while, but you want to get him out of there. I had a six line in an external overflow for a while before I realized where he went. The water is tank water still.

my clowns were fighting for a while and then one disappeared. My wife thought it must have been sick and died. No body found. Three weeks later while cleaning my skimmer, I looked up at the overflow bulkheads and noticed how clean the bottom of the glass was. Took a closer look with a flashlight and there was the missing clown. When we got him out, he was fat. Must have found something to eat back there. Not really saying you should leave him back there for three weeks, Just sharing a similar story.

I tried putting some flake food down in there and he ate it, I have durso pipes on it so the water is super fast moving at the bottom. Maybe I will leave him there for a day or two to let him get a rest from the other clown. I can keep an eye on him with the mirror, but I don’t know how I will get him out?? Thanks for the replies!

is there any risk of him ending up dry if he takes a trip thru the overflow pipe?

if not, yah, just let him rest for a few days.

can you remove the top of the durso (and leave the rest of the standpipe) to give yourself some more room to get at him?

Make sure nothing catch and kill him if he goes down the pipe. You then can remove the pipe, and catch him in the sump.

My brother had a tang dissapear only to find him in the overflow a few weeks later. We had to drain the overflow and then reach down and grab him. When he came out he was skinny and covered in ich, i would assume from the stress of it all.

easiest thing to do is pull the whole durso out and it will drain the entire overflow, and he should be fine if its a pretty straight shot to your sump then get him, and if he doesnt go down the drain then youll have to reach into the overflow and grab him.Done this several times on my tank and a friends

You dont need to pull out the durso, you run the risk of having the fish drain down the bulkhead (I'm assuming its a smaller maroon), just syphon off water down to a few inches so you can get it easily.
