Help Requested Please

I have a question about cycling my new 120 gal brackish water tank....I am doing a fishless cycle using added ammonia..Should I wait until I do the final water change before I add in the sea salt..I would think and hope so due to that a lot of money to be dumping down the drain....Thanks for any advice.....T

I would think, (Not Sure) that the bacteria that lives in fresh water will not live in salt water. With a salt water tank, we cycle with salt water.

Seems like you might be in the wrong hobby, if you don't want to be dumping money down the drain. This is somewhat the most expensive hobby I have ever been in.

Maybe I stated it wrong...I have already sent a lot of money and that's really not my concern...I have just been told I can do a cycle without the salt until the final water change..Im just trying to find out if this is true...Why through away money if I dont have too that's all....Thanks

i'll bet some people would know on these forums. but this is a saltwater forum, there are brackish forums that would probably be better for you.

I think osmotic shock would pickle the denitrifying bacteria.

Every brackish tank that I set up was cycled with the proper SG. I also do not perform a big water change after the cycle as long as all parameters are in check. To gain ammonia consuming bacteria I feed an uncycled tank sinking shrimp pellets once a week. Once the tank can consume the ammonia from the pellets its ready for some livestock.
