Help save aneome

So it has been months now,
tried lighting,
moving water flow
different filtration and yet no change...
Water parameters are very close to the same as before...
I am using a API test kit... any good?

Not in the water parameters, not really no...
The anemone won't die, but it won't open up either.....
1 fish jumped out....
The other 2 fish died...
I took the fish to the store no sign of disease, got water tested by the LFS and nothing.

I tried adding filtration and letting it sit for 2 weeks with water changes... nothing...
tried removing filtration... nothing
stopped dosing, kept a closer eye on the salt water levels and nothing.
There are 3 emerald crabs in the tank to help with algae....

I have not changed my maintaince schedule every 2 weeks I do water changes.

tried feeding the sea anemone.. still nothing....

Is the API test kit a good tool?... That is what I am using... someone yesterday told me it was garbage...

The latest thing I did was back off the lighting... went from the elive LED's to the stock LED's that came with the nuvo 20 gallon.

I will test again tonight but here is what I remember

SG - 1.024
temp - 79 degrees

0 ammonia
0 nitrite
8.4 PH
0 phosphate - I had so much filtration both mechanical and in the media reactor. (these have since been removed)
2.5 ppm nitrates
0 copper

I still need a chlorine test kit... which if I make it to the LFS I will grab..
Last weekend I did have to dose some Boyd Chemiclean to get rid of the red Cyano bacteria.

Thats the extent of what I have done...
Anyone have any advice other then chlorine...
I will test my water parameters again tonight or tomorrow as it is due for a water change anyways...

What you wrote here and in your build thread seem to point to water quality issue. With your additive, It is very likely that you have toxic level of some of the micro-nutrients.
I would make sure your temp and salinity are stable. Do water change 50% weekly with a good salt. Don't dose anything, even Ca and Alkalinity supliment. I dont dose anything ore than kalk top off and Ca reactor use crush corals.

Don't overfeed your tank. There should be no visible food after 5 mins after feeding. Anemones are mostly water. An anemone the same size of a fish required very little food, if any in compare to the fish. Many anemone keeper do not fish their anemone at all. They just grow slower. Sick anemone will get worst with food. Don't feed him until he is well.

BTA are very resilient, good luck with him.

Is it worth trying to treat him with anything???

I will try a very large water change this weekend and see what happens...

The Salt mix I am using is by Instant Ocean and the name of it is Reef crystals reef salt..

Is there a higher grade salt I should be using?

That is a very good salt. If you have problem, it is not because of the salt mix. I don't think he is infected so treatment is likely not needed.

Good water and stability of temp and salinity are what he needed. If you add Kalk, add it very slow (drops at a time in high flow area) or the pH spike stress the animals. The same goes with the Carbonate portion of the two parts additive (can drip faster than drops but not dump in cups at a time).

If you can use automatic top-off, it is best. However if you have to do manual top off, do it at least daily. It seem obvious to me, and most advance reefers, but there are novice out there just top off once a week, or dump in Kalk or CaCO3 direct into the tank. Make sure your temp varied at the most 1-2 degree though out the day. Pick your temp 76-83 are all OK but it have to be stable.

IMO, we run into more problem with too much micro-nutrients than too little. I would not add anything into the tank unless you know what you add and can reliably measure the result.

Also, there are no quick fix in reefkeeping. There are very few magic bullet that take care of a problem quickly. Problem with cyano and things like that need to be taken care of with good tank management. Quick chemical are not the way to go because it does not work and add to problems. The antibiotic you used to treat your cyano will wreck havoc on your biological filtration system which all reef depends on for stability.

I read you use tap water, do you condition it with prime or something similar?
My tank is 4 months and housing anemones (not saying anyone should try this without proper knowledge and skills)

IMO It has to do with water chemistry...probably lots of hard metals or something coming out of your tap
