Current lighting etc listed below. I do not know the exact parameters of my tank at this exact time.(please dont yell at me :spin2 I will say it is well established and all my other corals (stony, softies and otherwise) are doing awesome.

Problem: I got a redplanet tabletop directly from Steve Tyree @ reef farmers a couple months ago. He had it under 400w 20k radiums. I brought it home and was looking good, it slowly started becoming pale as I expected somewhat but hasn't stopped and currently has lost almost all color. I have full dark red polyp extention and it is quckly encrusting the chip it was glued to as well as the LR surrounding it. I was running older 250w 10k MH so I thought maybe that was the trouble. A few weeks ago I changed over to 15k XMs. The frag is placed high about 14 inches total from the bulb and about 4 or 5 inches below the waterline. MH run about 6hrs a day supplemented with PCs for an additional 2hr. It has moderate to med flow through the use of 2 korilias on alternating timers. I dose B-ionic daily for the volume of my tank. Constant water temp of 76-79 degrees.

Does anyone have any experience / input? Do I just need to give it some time to come back? I've seen some absolutely amazing pics of this thing and thats what I'm shooting for. I'm Beggin you, Help me save the Planet!!

Just needs time, I have one that lost quite a bit of color. Left it alone and color is slowly coming back.

Bad things happen quickly. Good things not so much.

Search for another thread that was posted about red planet in this forum. Most of the people that posted on there had it in the Middle of the tank. They were saying that if it was too high it lost color. I think it was last week or so that i was reading it. My red planet is in the middle of my 30in high tank and under 250 watt 14k phoenix which are about 8 inches off the water.

Same here, mine became very pale, but now 3 months later it is starting to gain color again. In the mean time it has doubled in size.

Same here. Been just about 3 months and it's finally coloring up. Growth has been great - all encrustation, no vertical growth. It completely covered the mount it was glued in that time. Can't wait until this puppy starts growing some branches.

thanks Mark.. I think I found the thread you were talking about. I went diving tonight and my RP is now about 1/2 - 2/3 down. It's looking a lil pale but if its not too late it'll be a pretty sweet spot for it when it colors up..fingers crossed. I'll update in a few weeks for anyone tagging along.

Hopefully it will color back up and everything will be fine. If not, I'm pretty close to you if you need to get another frag. I have my colony high up in tank under t5s. Seems to have lost a lot of the green. I've read that in lower light there will be more green to it.

thanx triguy. I hope it doesnt come to replacement but ya just never know. nice to know someone local. once I get some of these frags going I'd like to bank pieces with local reefers just incase too

Ive never had a red planet but I hear they keep their green color better placed lower in the tank. They tend to be more red when placed high in the tank. Maybe to high makes them pale?

I have mine at the top but not directly over my m/h and I have a good red and green color, they do take time to adjust to the tank peramiters. Good Luck!

Do they all do that when you bring them home. I've got mine in the sand under 260 watts of PC UVl super actinic, UVl 12000K and 108 watts of T-5 in a 55.

Most aquacultured corals tend to change in a home aquarium mostly because wherever the mother colony is kept is usually under prime conditions for color and since we all have different light preferences the corals adapt to that. For instance a 10k may be better for growth with less intense color while a 20k will bring out blues with less growth. Also different brands tend to vary just in the way they are made.
