help setting up carbon in phosban reactor?

Do I set this up the same way that I did with the phosban I was going to run ESV Granular activated carbon. The directions on the granular carbon say to add 1/2 fluid ounce of carbon for every 40 gallons. Are they talking about the granular carbon or is there some fluid carbon that also gets added to the reactor?

just guessing but i think "fluid ounce" means the measurement rather the the ounce as in weight...just a guess though....

I just fill it up to the top filter:

Just fill it up like Capn says. I put mine in reverse flow for carbon. The flow then pushes the carbon down and keeps it neatly in place. Don't do this with phosphate remover though.

Hmm, never thought about doing reverse flow. Do you think this works better?

Drillsay - yes, so its like a heating lava lamp.
Mavrk - Yes, it works better, but only for carbon (to stop it tumbling) NOT phosban as this will cake together in reverse flow.

I use a half cup to two-thirds cup per 50 gallons, changing it out every two weeks. I also run in reverse flow to stop it from tumbling. It'll grind itself up to a fine powder if it tumbles and make a horrible mess. Don't ask me how I know!

I went by what the container said and did a 1/2 cup for every 40 gallon. So I added 2 cups since my tank and sump add up to 160 gallons. I also opened the ball valve on the carbon reactor all the way and then on the phosban reator I have the ball valve open just enough so the phosban on the top is moving. Does this seem fine? Any thing else that you guys would suggest? Should I add more carbon and fill it up ?
