I really need some help I dont know what this is and I dont want my fish to die. OK so I bought this fowleri Tang about 3 weeks ago. He was in a 30 gallon QT with some live rock. I was not medicating or hypo the QT or anything like that. Well he was really skiddish and kept jambing himself under the rocks. Then I finally noticed these marks on his side and I just thought it was because he keeps jambing himself under the liverock and is gettting cut up. So I made the discision to put him in my display tank because I felt that he would be able to recover from what I thought to be cuts. Well now he has been in the display tank with no competitors. He does not seem to be getting better, I think the size of these marks my be increasing also. My water parameters are all very good, actually they are about perfect. I have him eating mysis right now soaked in garlic, zoe, marine c and selcon. He eats alot when I feed him twice a day.

So does anybody know what this is so I can treat it.

I've not a lot of experience, but you could try an antibacterial liquid.
I'm using Tesino Bacterial killer.

on the bottle says:

TeSino Bacterial kiler can kill all types of bacteria and also has healing efects on all types of infections such as white apot, redspot velvet disease, eye diseases and gill parasite.

but you have to take out your charcoal filter when using it.

but as I said, I'm a beginner, so don't blame me if it still dies when using a bacterial killer. it worked fine for my clownfish it has a infection, like rotting white meat.

I'm using it, and he just started to eat again and the wound is getting smaller

anyway goodluck

i think u will be fine i have a 7" fowleri in my display he get those marks from time to time and it just goes away. As long as he is eating u should be fine.

Tough ones make it, weaker ones die. Feed him alot of nori and some kent aloe vitamins soaked in his food. If hes tough he should be able to ride it out. My yellow tang got stuck in a power head over night and made it.

That does look like some sort of bacterial infection probably from some sort of stress. What other fish do you have in there? With that being said. My fowleri never gets any blemishes on him. he also never has that " pale" look. I think this has alot to do with having good quality liverock in the tank, and the fact that he is the only fish in my 60gallon system. These fish need to be able to graze freely on macro algae, sponges etc. I hope you get that guy squared away, good luck..

I have seen those marks before bust in a different state - those look like they are healing. A lot of tangs come in with those bruises and from the looks of it is bite marks from other tangs. Anyway - looks healthy so good luck

yeah he has not tankmates so any of these marks were caused from wedging himself underliverock, if these are actually just cuts and not some bacterial infection.

He is eating really good and swimming around more, not so much hiding.

Thats good to know.

do you guys see that large patch uder his pectoral fin headed toward the gill that one worries me.

ok now i think he has flukes or something in his eye.
will that go away on its own, are there any reefsafe treatments.

Some flukes are self limiting in tanks because they require an intermediate host to reproduce, but many do not. Most flukes can be successfully treated with praziquantel/Prazipro and some people have used it in reef tanks with no noticeable problems.
