Hello all ,

I've been dealing with this for a few months, some of my frags are diying, usually it starts like a patch and then the tissue is receding but in the receded zone always is left something like detritus even if they are in a good flow area.

I have tried reef dip in a concentrated solution more than recomended in the instructions but the infection don't stop, I have tried fragging the affected colonies and glued to a new plug but sometime after they start to reced from the bottom.

I have read that this is highly contagious I and not only my acropora are being affected, also I have seen it in a pavona coral

here are some pics

I'll really appreciate any help or advices

Thanks

It would help very much so if you posted your water parameters: mainly including phosphate, nitrate, alkalinity (any swings), pH, salinity, and temperature (also any other swings?).

Also post your lighting and water flow and maybe your tank size and setup please.

Your bleaching could be from a number of reasons. From to much lighting to poor water quality. Water parameter swings are very detrimental to your tank. If lighting and water flow are adequate I would suspect phosphates or temperature (from the recent heat wave) swings. Make sure to post any significant changes in parameters as these are essential for us to help in your situation.

I'm sure others will chime in too who have better experience than I but I'm trying to contribute as well.

Thanks

My tank is 90 Gal, I have two 250 Mh 20000°K, fopr circulation Y have the return plus 2 Koralias 4 plus ina boyu wavemaker, as for water parameters nitrate 0 phosphate 0, I do have seensome Alkalinity swings but this is just recently, I have some acroporas with this "patches" since last winter, I do believe that it is not being a water quality issue. I belive this started when I received some colonies of pocillopora.

I have read that this could be caused by Vibrio Bacteria and it is highly contagious, not depending much on water quality, and that this sometime comes from wild catched corals.

What could be a good and efective treatment; does the product coral RX work?

Hi snake, saw your post on i-reef, i went thru the same thing my friend as you can see on my i-reef post, first, check your alk, alk swings or too low alk might contribute to your problem, try to balance it at around 8-9.5 dkh, that is a nice range, second, coral rx and revive are not known to help on coral infections, at least the info label on the bottle doesn't say it, i only used them for dipping and removing parasites, snake try this, take out a couple of sps frags out, and dip them to see if you dont have some unwanted pest, like AEFW, which for the most part start doing damage from the base up, good luck

Thanks Bro, I know that some parameter swings can stress the coral and make it prone to some infections, I have always kept my alk in 8.9 range, this week I tested and it was down to 6 dkH.
Anyway this swing was recently, but my infection problem is 6 months old and also look at the edges, they don't look like a normal bleaching.

I'll dip some to look for parasites but I'm almos sure I don't have them, but I'll double check.
