Help Stocking a 75 Gal

I currently have 2 ocellaris clowns, 1 Potter's Angel and a YWG in my 75g. My YMG is out almost all day. When I added the Potter's he went into hiding for about a month but now he is out. He just sits in his spot observing the tank.

My plans for the future are Green Mandarin, McCosker's flasher wrasse and a flame angel, in that order.

I have also been eyeing a golden dwarf eel, but that would be way off in the future. I don't want to spend that kind of money on a fish before I have a lot more experience.

Thats nice to hear that YWG are almost everyday. I thought they would hide more often then not but if they are out as much as you say then I will definitely get one.

I also saw the thread where people were talking about golden dwarf eels and it seems like a really cool idea. I don't think that I have enough rockwork for one and I also don't feel like spending that much money right now. They are really neat though. I also have heard a few people keep dwarf lionfish with some success in a reef tank but that just sounds risky to me.

Right now I want to keep it relatively simple and keep peaceful fish that shouldn't have a problem with each other or corals. I'm sure at some point I'll try something harder to keep. That just seems like the natural progression of a reef keeper.

My YWG also has a lot of personality. It is funny to watch him puff up at the Potter's. The angelfish just ignores him.

I think it might hide more if I had more aggressive fish.

Our setups seem very similar. I started mine in April. I really like the Powerbright LEDs. When my T5's aren't on they give a very nice moonlight look.

Do you keep your Powerbright LEDs on all night? I haven't yet because the fish seem to stay awake and my corals (the two mushrooms that came with the live rock) stay open when the light is on. I don't know if after a few hours everything would still go into nightime mode or if the lights will keep everything up.

I run my T5's from 8am-8pm and my LED's from 5am-12am

That way they get 5 hours of complete darkness in the middle of the night.

Alright I may have to try that in the future. Right now I have two digital timers but I plan on getting a controller in the distant future (within a year) so once I get one I will set the LEDs then. For now I guess they will be turn on and off manually. Thanks for the help!

I have false percs, a firefish and two bangaii cardinals so we have the same thoughts on fish. I also have 20 red leg hermits and 2 emerald crabs. Do you have crabs or shrimp on your list?

I am also looking for a good bottom dweller and right now I'm looking for a tail spot blenny. You should take a look at them vs the pink bar goby. The tail spot seems like a more aggressive eater and a bit hardier. I was thinking about a Hector's Goby which would also pick at algae.

I won't go near tangs, they never look happy in the tank and are too disease prone. The CBB will eat to many things I don't want it to though they do look cool. If I was to have one large showy fish, that would be a consideration, especially if aiptasia comes back.

I have about 6 red leg hermits, 5 nassarius snails, and 4 turbo snails. I do plan on getting a peppermint shrimp and a cleaner shrimp.

I will into the Gobies that you suggested. I do think that I will get a goby for a bottom dweller but I haven't decided which kind.

Yeah I don't think I am going to get a tang. My tank is too small and maybe I'll try one in a few years if I get a bigger tank but they sound like too much of a hassle for me right now. I am probably going to get a Wanatabe Angel or Lamarcks for a show fish. The Wanatabe get to 6" max but the Lamarcks can get to 9". I'm sure 6" won't be too big in the tank but 9" might be. I really just need to see one in person and then I think I will be able to see just how big the fish get and if I think it will fit in the tank.

Thanks again for all the help everyone and hopefully in the next few months I will have all the fish in the tank.

My 4-year old daughter and my wife both want Dorie (blue-hippo tang). I told my wife that the bioload created by that type of fish would limit our ability to add fish. Nevermind the fact that a 75g might be too small in the long run anyway!

So, I am with you on no tangs in my 75g!

I do have 2 peppermint shrimp, a cleaner shrimp, and a dozen or so different hermits. I am going to add a pistol shrimp for my YMG at some point.
