I bought a yellow eye tang on Saturday,he ate nothing SAt,but he has been eating swimming acting normal.Until tonight,he got in my rock and has laid down, dying Im sure.Ive tested my water all parameters are good.My trigger, clown and damsil are fine.Ive got no clue??Up to tonight hes been fine? Are these tangs hard to keep??Any advice would be great!

yeah sounds like he stressed too much during shipping. I have heard that animals that take too long to ship suffer a loss of bacteria in their gut and this will cause them to stop eating and waste away. I had a coral beauty do the same thing 3 weeks ago, looked and swam great, but never ate, finally just laid down one night. I normally try to see the fish eat at the store before I purchase them.

Thankx all,the little fella was dead this morning.Noworries1979 I surely hope yours makes it,myself I think Im thru with Tangs for quite awhile.Good luck to all who raise them.

Sorry about your loss. :(
The size of your tank could've stressed it further. Although a Kole (Yellow Eye Tang), IMO, would be fine for a while in a 55g, you also have three other agressive fish in that tank.

if you do ever decide to get one again, look for one that has been at the store for a while and is acting healthy

in 2 of the LFS's that I visitied over the past week---->alot of dying tangs, must of been a large recent trapping with cyanide

I've had quite a few tangs and many of them started out that same way. A few ended up dying after a few days just like yours. The others took a while to adjust. I had one blue hippo in particular that hid for the first few days but eventually came out and started eating seaweed from the clip. I think a lot of it is just that some fish adjust to their new surroundings and get over the stress of shipping and some don't. Now, I always take a few hours to get the fish acclimated and when I put them in the tank, I darken the tank with a blanket or something for at least 24 hours, sometimes longer if the fish seems really stressed. This usually works pretty well.

I have had a yellow tang for about 2 years now. Recently it got sick for some unknown reason. It stopped eating and the coloring was terrible. I added garlic drops to the tank every other day and began soaking the seaweed algae in the garlic water before putting it in the tank. It took about a week, but it came around. It began eating again and has its color back. I didn't think it would make it, but it all worked. I also added Marine-Max to the tank every other day as well. Try this regimen to see if it helps yours.

Sometimes if the fishes are caught via poisoning they will eat but not absorb anything from the food. However, it is hard to tell until it is too late. This can take people by surprise since they will continue feeding however suffering from malnutrition with internal blockage.

Sorry for your loss rod, my yellow eye didn't make it either. He just wouldn't eat. I feel terrible, but I guess it is part of the hobby. I have done almost everything I could do for the little guy (thanks to all @ RC) but there will still be casualties I guess.
