HELP...Tank Transfer Method and Prime

Everyone....I am on the second stage of the Tank Transfer Method. I am scheduled to enter my 3rd transfer in the AM but, I just tested the water and I am showing a slight Ammonia reading.

Due to getting a borderline reading this morning, I had added a small dose of Prime (according to the instructions). I am concerned now because I dont want to overdose the tank with Prime, and my reading didn't change since this mornings dose.

My TT are a pair of 10g, and I use a seeded sponge with an air stone, from my DT for some bio.

Question....after adding prime to my tank....I am assuming that a slight Ammonia reading would go away....correct?? Or will it show a false positive and that the Ammonia present is not the toxic one.

ALSO....I just got called into work early in the AM. Would it be ok for me to move clowns later on tonight?? This is my first time doing the TT method...so any help would be greatly appreciated.

You will still read ammonia, prime just binds it into a non toxic form. I would add a extra air stone or power head pointed at the surface for O2 exchange some things like prime degrade oxygen levels. You can do the next transfer tonight instead of in the morning. The cysts fall off at night but not necessarily in the morning

Ok....cool. Thanks. I was just worried about the possibility of toxic Ammonia affecting them. I am using the Coralife Luft pump that puts out 7psi max...which is what I am running the pump at. Needless to say I have plenty of surface agitation/aeration.

Thanks for the info on doing the transfer at night. Wasn't 100% sure and figured I would ask. Honestly...I have found the tank transfer to be quite easy and do like it. I put black vinyl on all the sides of the tank except the front, so the fish don't freak out. They are eating well, and already do look so healthy and vibrant.

Tonight was the first try at some frozen PE Mysis and Cyclopseze.....they loved the smaller pieces, but elf the bigger ones to float around the tank. Sofar it has been a great success!!

Correct. Important that no transfer cycle exceeds 72 hours, other than that time of day is not all that relevant.

Fist let me congratulate you for employing a QT protocol and using it from the start. TTM is by far the least stressful, effective, and shortest method of making sure your not dealing with ich in your DT. After TT you should observe for a total of 8 weeks to ensure fish are healthy. Some say 6 wks but 8 is much safer 12 wks is best

Thanks!! The hardest part is the waiting period once in my QT tank. I just found an awesome "squared off plastic fish scooper" that fits perfectly in the 10g tanks. It's also deep enough to allow for easy entry and transfer without them jumping out, and keeping the amount of water transferred from one tank to another VERY minimal.

Here is a link for those looking for a great fish strainer!!

Also....another few questions I have....

I am running a throw away airstone for O2, which goes down like 3/4 of the way in the tank. I have the Coralife Luft pump which is adjustable and maxes out at 7 psi.

While this may sound like a stupid question..... Can I lower the pumps output in the tank overnight while my lights are out and the fish are sleeping??

The reason is that when I turn it all the way up, the agitation at the water surface is very turbulent in the 10g tank.....and I get a mini vortex affect with the rise of the massive amount of air bubbles. When I dose with Prime on day 2...I max the pump out to help with mixing the solution in the tank.

2 other questions....

Once the fish are moved to my fully cycled QT bare bottom tank (that only has a fire shrimp and a hermit crab)...I am considering to dose Prazipro phophactically. If I do that...will it have any affect on my inverts, my live rock, ceramic bio filter rings, and nano skimmer?

If I am running some carbon....does the carbon and/or the skimmer need to stop once I add the Prazipro?? I never used Prazipro before, so with this being a first time along with the TTM...just want some insight.

Thanks
