Ok, I have a queen angel with possibly ich? Some background, tank is 200gal FOWLR. Amm = 0 both nitrates and nitrates negligble. Tank is 2 years old and thriving. Cheato in fuge with mangrooves. All fish are healthy with this one exception. He is the latest (and last) fish addition. He has been in tank for 4 months. About 3 weeks ago, I noticed that only 1 eye (left side) was cloudy, I did some research and came to the conclusion that it was rock or some sort of trauma damage. To support this conclusion, about a week later he eye was perfectly clear! About 1 week ago, he started getting this white crap on his Left fin, and on his body. Also on the left side. Eye's remain clear, fish is active with a healthy appetite. I quarentened him yesterday and started treating him with melafix in lue of ordering the proper treatement. I would like someone with more disease knowledge to give me a hand diagnosing it and then moving on to a treatment, i assume if its ich, I have read good things about copper dosing. Thank you for your help!

"White crap" isn't any usable info. Impossible to tell what it is without a pic. Google "marine ich" and include images. Fish you see will be heavily infested with ich, but you can compare the spots. Ich looks like salt grains. When was the last fish introduced to the tank? Have you used a QT with all fish? If it is ich, or a similar parasite, ALL fish will need to be quarantined while the DT is left fallow for about 10 weeks. Melafix won't do anything, probably won't hurt anything either. It will just separate you and a little of your money. Just tossing meds at a problem isn't a good idea; but I guess Melafix (and similar herbal cure-alls aren't really medicine.

There are pics. Links on bottom, this was the last fish and he has been in for 3-4 months. I got him out as soon as I seen the sickness. The stuff on his fins, it moves with the fin, its almost like a slime?

For things like this a scraping or smear is what needs to be done. Do you have access to a microscope?

I have large angels dominant tank, I do know angel are very acceptable to fungus and that's what it looks like from pic and got some fin rotting. If so I use methylene blue and is very effective for fungal, I had to use it on my blue ring angel with similar appearance within 5 days it was gone. I can't say 100% that's what it is; I am very knowledgeable in most other areas, but when it comes to diseases I am sometimes at lost unless it's ich, popeye and fungal that's all I've dealt with. Guess I've been lucky not having to deal with others.

Without reasonable doubt that is not ich.

Thank you for your help, any particular reason you don't use malachite green?

No particular reason just ran into MB first which works and plus it had other benefits like for dipping and detox nitrite and cyanide poisoning.

Did you dip your angel in a concentrated dose or did you add a set amount to a QT tank? Mine is a 10g

To be honest with new fish intro I don't QT, though I know I should because QT is always best. I've just been giving the new fish fresh water bath for 15-30min depending on the fish and then a small amount of time in a super concentrated amount of MB.

Dosage amount is on the bottle.

How would you recommend a dose this 1 sick fish? A dip followed by a QT with dosage of MB? Or just dip with normal QT? Vice versa? Sry to bug, but you are the best help I've had yet!

By dip I mean a concentrated MB Solution, not FW.

If in fact that's what your fish has then I would say QT with the recommended dose indicated on the bottle is enough. You can dip prior if you like, but IMO it's not going to make much of a difference QT with recommend dose is sufficient. Like I said earlier if in fact that's what it is, but does look like it to me.

Maybe some other disease pro can shed more light if I'm right or wrong and maybe their something better than MB, but I'm very satisfied with result from blue ring. It was spreading like wild fire.
