hi, i just got a 9005 with extention set in my sump, water level is about 5", i turn it on with the air closed, per instructions, and then turned it 3 revolutions, i can see water being drawn into the middle part of the reactor, and white foam forming there, but the foam does not reach the foam cup; the water inlet is wide open, but no water flows out from the water outlet, the water reaches about half way up the outlet tube. what is the problem? is my water level too low? there are also lots of micro bubbles in my DT since i started using the skimmer...any help is appreciated!

Either the bottom plate with the suction cups is not fully seated or the coupler between the pump and intake is loose. The bottom cover is the usual problem, if it is even open 1mm this will happen.

thanks for the help! now i am getting water coming out of the outlet pipe, but there are still no bubbles, the white foam/water mixture still does not reach the foam cup, and there is a small leak where the top and bottom parts of the housing meet, its a small pressurized stream, is that going to cause a problem?

Is this leak in the middle of the housing or near the top, where the air adjustment and ozone ports are? If it is near the top it may be restricting the air intake. Also, there is a hole in the back that water should normally exit with some pressure, this is normal but if it is where the top plate meets the body that could be a problem. Do you have any "coffee maker" type noises or is it quiet?

the leak is near the middle where the seam between the top and bottom meet, the unit is pretty quiet...still not enough bubble to reach the cup, its been running for 2 days now, is the lack of skimmate due to the fact that the skimmer gets water after the bio balls? i still have a lot of MB in my DT also...

i removed the bio balls from my sump, left it running for 2 days, still no bubbles reaches the collection cup, i just removed the pre-filter from the overflow box...i hope this will help.

No, the bio balls should not have a big effect. Something is wrong, is there any chance you can post some pics? I would like pics of the inside of the skimmer from the bottom with the pump installed and removed and a pic of the pump itself. My suspicion is that the outlet of the pump is not inside the clear jet pipe in the skimmer body or the outlet is broken.
