help with a bakpak

I have a bak pak skimmer, the lfs told me it was the best for my set up. Witch is a 45 gal bow front with 45 pounds of lr. What skimment I do get is always bubbly but never brown or green, just yellow. I cannot adjust the airflow on this model. what could I do to improve. please help.

Which powerhead are you using, mj1200 or rio600? Upgrade to a mj1200 and do the pseudo-needle wheel mod. AND/OR add an airline to the collection side and use fine bubbles (ie rena ceramic stone)

Neither BakPak or Remora can produce dark brown skimmate like a ASM or Euro-Reef skimmer. You just have to do more frequent water change to keep your nitrate down.

Hang-ons don't work as well as in-sump/inline models IMO
If the bakpak is new, it might take a while for it to break in. Had one myself, and they are a little finicky.

the bak pak is about a 8 months old
