Hi everyone,

I've looked everywhere but really can't find any pictures that look like this anemone, would anyone happen to know what it is?

The closest ID I can find is Stichodactyla gigantea, but its only similar can't find an identical picture of ours.

Quick description to help, the whole anemone is a creamy white colour with blue/purple tips. The tentacles are from 1-3cm long. The anemone itself is a bit bigger than a tennis ball.

Thanks in advance :)

its a BBTA/PBTA, purple/blue bubble tip Anemone. not sure of the biological name. sorry, im from Tennessee, lol!..REEF-ON!!!

That looks very much like a bleached sebae anemone. We got one a little smaller than that about 1 1/2 years ago. With proper care, it should darken for you. If it is a sebae, you need to baby it some or it's very likely it will die, and could take your tank with it.
Basics:
Good water
Food
Good lighting

Most feed these guys in this condition meaty food every other day. Starting small since it is stressed is a good idea. We actually did mysis shrimp for the first few weeks and then moved up to scallops, those seemed to be readily accepted.

We also had to upgrade our lighting. We just had a few watts of PC and wanted to upgrade anyway, so this was a good reason. We went from PC's to MH's. Some have done it with different lighting, but I think overall, most have had good success with MH's.

Watch for signs of it begining to melt, or smell bad, that's bad. I wish I had our first pictures and current pictures on this computer and knew how to post them, I'd show you how very much a like the anemone's look and what you may expect to see. As the nem regains its zooxanthellae the tentacles will become longer and more slender, and the nem will darken in color. Mine is now beige with purple tips.
Good luck!

Thanks for the replies everyone!
I've seen some other pictures now and have to agree with you raoul, it does appear to be a sebae.

Now the lights have gone off the tips are definitely purple. Its under metal halides so the lighting is good for it. No problems with the water so hopefully we can nurse it back to health.

Does this happen alot ? Because i saw quite a few anemones today in a couple LFS that looked just like ours!

Anyways thanks for the speedy replies :)

....it does appear to be a sebae.
Your research on care, requirements, etc., will be far more fruitful if you use the Latin name, Heteractis crispa, as was provided earlier.

"sebae" is used to describe multiple species with different care requirements.

Good luck.
