okay, so i got a used asm g2 skimmer and just installed it. heard that it was a great skimmer (so far i'm not impress) my question is; it looks as though the stock sedra 3500 is not strong enough or something. sorry i've been using a ev-150 with a mag 9, lots of turbulance in there. second, is your asm loud, man this thing sucks air like a $5 hooker:D it is so loud.

anyone using the stock 3500 pump and getting good skimmate.

Use the output tube to control the water in your skimmer. When they say its a plug and play skimmer they are actually lying to you.;)

The output tube has a smaller ID pipe in it that can slide up and down to your preference for skimmate.

They arent that loud. Ill take an ASM over any skimmer using a mag pump.

Then again if you were expecting dead silent, you were wrong.

Be sure that nothing in your sump is getting stuck, or being sucked in by the venturi, it will get loud and cause your skimmer to overflow.

Second if you bough it used I'd reccomend you soak and run the pump in some water with vinger in it, and clean out the tubing from the venturi.

I have a G3 and it was plug and play for me and started producing skimmate within 15mins. The venturi was a little louder than expected at the beginning but it has quieted down. What I did originally was took the bottom portion of a Rio venturi baffle and attached it to a lil piece of RO tubing then stuck it on the venturi tube that came with the skimmer with no degradation of performance.

Ack, I hit the submit button before I could finish lol.

Here's a pic of my G3 with the lil baffle

The key to get these things to skim (and others like it) is to have a consistant water level (either 8" or 9") and raise the riser tube so that the water level in the skimmer chamber is a little above the neck of the collection cup (a good starting point) then raise/lower it from there to fine tune it. Just remember to wait a lil while when you make adjustments since touching the water will cause the skimmer to not skim.
