Help with BTA

JTEAGUE

New member
I purchased a bta yesterday and placed it midaway up in the tank, clear of any corals. It came out beautiful and then over about an hours time it started recessing into the rocks. Bummer. I got the flashlight today and his foot is fully extended and it seems to be upside down? I am not wanting to tear any rocks down, what a pain. Any suggestions? :o

Thats normal, it's acclimating himself to it's new home, give it some time. As long as you have appropriate lighting and waterparameters, and the anemone was healthy to begin, thing will work out.

redvipe2010 I have 230 watt pc on a 75 gallon and the water parameters are 1.025, temp 80 F, cal 420, dkh 10, rest is undetectable. I pumped a little cyclop eez and mysis in the rocks at lights out.

Gradually increase your sg to 1.026, you can do this by replacing evaporated water with salt water instead of R/O or RO/DI. Your sg is not extremely low, but it is slightly low, so top off with saltwater will be fine. Just be sure to monitor it. Shouldn't take but a day or too.

Skip the Cyclop Eeze. Stay with meaty foods like Silversides, mysis, raw shrimp, and krill.

Why at lights out?

I do keep at 1.026 but just did a water change yesterday due to setting up a nano and when I checked the salinity it was low. I have mixed up saltwater to top off but dont want to add to quickly. Nice observation by the way, I also forgot to mention that the ph is 8.3.

your ph is fine at 8.3, although the target is 8.2, 8.3 is fine as long as it doesn't fluctuate much. I see no reason to try to adjust it at the moment.

Got any pics of your new purchase?

hope the pic goes thru. 12 gal jbj nano set up yesterday.

Doesnt look like it worked. I'm at a loss. Guess i did not figure it out but you should be able to click on my image gallery to view.

all the water came from my 75, plus a filter sock in the back from the 75, I left out the bio balls and ceramic rings and just placed the filter sock in the back of the nano. The corals where fragged out of the 75. It contains one false percula, 2 hermits, 2 turbo snails, 12 lbs fiji live rock, several mushrooms, kenya tree frag, green sinularia frag, devils hand frag, and encrusting gorgonia. All is doing well as it should since their will be no cycle. The only thing new is the glass!

No, I had the sand lying around and rinsed it and let it dry before use. I researched this pretty well before starting. I tried to plan it all out and hope all goes well

I disagree. You had dead sand then. Dead sand, water and fiter sock from existing tank does not give you an instant cycle. Where did you research this at, I'd like to read that.

I put about 2 inches of dead sand and put about one and half cups on top of that from the 75. My research was done on RC thru muliple post. I can only hope for the best and I am aware that everyone has a differant opinion on wether it would cycle or not. Some say it may have a small cycle, some say no cycle. I will be the first to admit it if it does not work so someone else can learn from it.

Could work, not sure either, I would have let it sit longer to be safe. I was under the impression there was no sand taken from your 75. I'm guessing you will get a cycle of some sort, I am interested in the results. Can you post a ling to the thread, I'd like to read it. I do hope it works out for you.
