Help with connecting to apex outside network

OK, I have a new Apex running one tank and a AC3 Pro running another. I am using a 2 wire 2701hg-b router. I have an account with Dyndns set up and can access the AC3 Pro using that account. How do I set up the Apex to work also. I have the AC3 set to port 80 and the Apex to port 82. I can access both controllers via Aquanotes on my Iphone. BTW I am a network idiot. I can do things via trial and error but I don't have a clue. Thanks for the help.

I'm new to the apex controllers...but I do have mine setup and accessible from the internet...and my iPhone. The aquanotes app is excellent in my opinion!

If you have the AC3 setup...it may just be a matter of adding a setting in your router for new Apex.

When you say you have the APEX set to port 82...is that setting in the router or on the APEX?

You need to make sure the APEX itself is set to 82 and the router has port forwarding setup for the IP address of the apex and correct port number.

Check those things...send me a few screen shots if it's still not working.

In the 2wire management page, go to Firewall. Then click on the Add a new user-defined application link. Enter a name, i.e. ApexWeb. Select the TCP button. In the port range, put 82 in both the From and To fields. The Map to Host Port field should also be 82. Leave the Application Type set to non/default. Click the Add Definition button.

Back on the Firewall Settings page Step 1, choose the IP address of the Apex from the drop-down list. Under Step 2, Allow individual applications should already be selected. From the left drop-down, locate the application definition you created above. Select that, then click ADD. Click SUBMIT.



2Wire routers can be a real pain in the butt....

I wasn't adding the port at the end. Why am I unable to access the two controllers via the same dyndns account that I use outside the network from inside the network? I have to use the network addresses I assigned the controllers. Not a big deal but just curious. Thanks again.

The capability to use an external address to access internal resources from a device on the same local network is called NAT loopback or NAT redirection. Some routers support that capability, some don't. And with some routers that do support it, it's very slow.
