I was wondering if y'all might be able to help me ID some cirtters in my tank. Its a 10 gal thats been running for 1+month with LS and Bali LR. These critters come out at night mostly and I have seen up to about 4 of them at one time. The largest is longer than a finger and a lil wider than a finger too. (skinny plumber fingers that is) They I believe have a hard outter shell, how do I know cause I did what any good guy/boy would do, I poked it with a stick. Are they bad not "reef safe" should i leave em alone, keep poking them, spear them and grill em? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you soo much for your time and advise. Here are the critters....

Ohh if any of you know about mantis shrimp and trying to find that "infamous" clicking noise in your tank let me know too. I keep hearing the click click but havent seen it yet. I even bought hermits and snails to see if it would catch them instead of the cool lil hitchhiking crabs that came on the rock, but no death and carnage as of yet.

thanks again

Kinda hard to tell from the pics, but I think they are chitons - possibly crytoplax sp. They are harmless algae grazers. I have one that came from some bali live rock.

Ummmm, depending on what size fish you want/have in your tank, you might want those little hitch hikin' bastards dead. I had gorilla crabs that hitch hiked on my LR and they would kill any fish under 3". Usually at night. Agressive little guys, black claws, beady little evil red eyes.

Once you narrow it down to a few rocks that the mantis might be in, you can supposedly use seltzer water (pour onto the rock while holding rock out of water above a bowl of the tank water) to get him outta the rock. But good luck findin' him, he's probably a little guy. If you find him, don't kill him, there's people here who'll pay for a mantis!

Actually I am hoping that I have the lil mantis we already have a name for him "They" as in the "They" that always kill Kenny in south park. It hasnt bothered any of the "the bait" blue hermits and snails and now a porc. crab still no death and carnage. So perhaps its really small and cant get to them.
