how many people have done a "black out" with there tanks? what have been the affects? any harm done with corals of fish? does it auctually kill off the cyano?

I have tried to do it many years ago to treat cyno and no luck. I ended up using red slime remover to rid my tank of cyno and have never had it again. But you should try to find the source of the issue cyno feeds off nutrients more then light. I only had cyno during the first few months after setting up a tank.

Blacking out your tank usually requires about 24-48 hours of darkness. You'll need to cover the glass too, so ambient room light doesn't feed it.

I too have used red slime remover, and it worked really well.... I half dose it, and run carbon immediately after the prescribed water change. Skimmer usually goes crazy for about a week though.

tried it for a few days,

tried it for a few days,

nevermind my post was dumb I thought it was about something else cause im dumb like that from time to time sorry this is my edit

Def works 100% but if there is a reason it is there in the first place wich needs to be addressed for it to never return.

Chyano needs light to live but I suggest at least 3-4 days total darkness no moon light and cover the tank.

yes i have tank wrapped in blanket and all lights are off..i was planing on shooting for 3 days? and i understand its due to a nutrient issue, but i cant figure out where the nutrients are coming from..i feel i feed spareingley..ro water... i have a swc 150 skimmer....but the cyano relly seems to grow when my mh turn on?

google my trick "cyano scrubber reefcentral". If ut works for u too, please post results in that thread.
