Help with do and Dont of selling corals.

Hi every one!
I am new at fragging so for now I'm just starting with zoanthids/palys. While discussing fragging with my Lfs, they made me an offer to bring in my fragged zoanthids for store credit. I was wondering if any one had experience with selling trading they could share, what could I expect to see for my zoas? 30% 40% of their value? Would you bag individually to bring them in? Shoot some pics of my corals and see if they like them? Where should I start?

Thank you for help

My lfs gives 1/3 to 1/2 of the retail value in store credit for frags. If all of the frags are coming from the same tank and only making a short trip from your house to the store, then I wouldn't see a reason to individually bag them. I put all of mine in a 5gal bucket and bring them to the store that way.

Thank you for the response. The 5 gallon bucket is a good idea. How long would you let your fraged corals heal before bring them in 2 weeks?

I usually let my frags grow out for at least a month but IMO 2 weeks would be plenty of time for the frags to heal.

Just frag them up and let them heal for about 2 weeks. Bring them in and see what the lfs will offer you. I enjoy doing this. Helps build a good relationship with your lfs

40-50% is pretty good if you can get it, they'll probably give you a higher percentage if you trade for supplies instead. I know a couple people who never pay for salt, they just take some frags to the LFS when they run out :)

I would be happy with covering my salt costs with coral fragging :)

I love my LFS, but admittedly they aren't always very generous about trading frags for store credit. I'm jealous of all of you. xD

my lfs does a 60/40 split. i put my frags in their frag tank and put a price on them and then i get 60% towards a running store credit once they sell.

QTing all livestock upon arrival isn't cheap, so I doubt very much that LFSs ever do it. They'd have to have alot of QTs set up, and a good system for monitoring and treatments. Bottom line though, they probably aren't gonna make much more money if any from the added cost and effort.

That is a good point probably not worth the effort for them

Out of the 7 saltwater only stores I have shopped at in my area there is only one that has a Quarentine area and its only for fish.
