Hey guys,
The breeding set up is coming together. Well more like the ideas are coming together and collection of equipment and things.

Starting small probebly about 6 tanks with a central sump, though i am struggleing on the filtration side! I have always just relyed on the LR in my reefs(never tried FO).
Though i am wanting to shy away from the rock a little on the breeding system. Mainly due to cost and available space.

I am thinking filter socks on down pipes, a large skimmer - possibly running Ozone! thoughts on this?
Algae bed, and i am thinking of runningg the water down through a trickle filter. Here i am clueless where to start!
How do i go about making a trickle filter? How big does it have to be? Which media would people reccomend?

Anything else people would suggest adding to the filtering side? Would people still have a LR portion of sump?

I am looking at around 240ish gallons, but i want to be able to add to the system if possible.

Thanks for any and help guys

There are several threads here on breeding systems that have filter/ bio-filter info in them. My general approach is to use what is readily available :D What I mean is don't beat yourself up trying to figure out the best or most efficient bio-filter, if you've got balls, use 'em  If you have bio-wheels, sand filters, hair curlers or lava rock use that ;) With so may people converting f/o systems to reef/ lr tanks it is easy to pick up wet/dry filters, fbf filters or bio-wheels dirt cheap. Maybe you have a ton of scrap "eggcrate" lying around, layer that with window screen in between each sheet and viola, a bio-filter. Just use your imagination :)

I hear what you are saying David and thanks for the reply.
I have been reading through the old threads and though people touch on their filtration i cant find anyone going into detail. And i have absolutly no experience with FO tanks. The only way i have ever filtered marine tanks is LR.

I will have a sniff around, see what i can come up with!
