Help With Green Carpet Anemone

Mr. Eel

Best eel owner in the US
I have a green carpet anemone that I bought online and I placed the foot into about 4'' of sand the nem when fully extended is about 7''. The problem is that shortly after being burried he uprooted his foot and is laying on his side his stomach isnt coming out, and his tentacles look normal, but he isnt walking or replanting himself. What could I be doing wrong and how to fix?

A few questions - Is it staying inflated? Is mouth remaining closed? Any damage to foot?

I wouldn't harass it. Most haddoni like a high light, low flow areas. Maybe lay it in an area in your tank that meets those criteria and leave it be, he will dig in when he finds his spot and is comfortable.

If he is deflating on and off on a regular basis research cipro treatment.

The mouth is usually closed, but he is not always inflated ( like now ) and the foot looks fine, but I have taken some goo off of it.

From the picture he looks ok. He might be adjusting to the new environment. Let him sort out where he wants to be don't touch it or move it.

Haddoni carpet is quite hardy anemone, unless something is seriously wrong. Give it some day and keep the water quality in check, you should be fine.

This is what he looks like when deflated. Any treatment options if there is something wrong with him?

Odd shaped in one of the pics but I wouldn't consider it a deflate. As long as it does not deflate and as long as the mouth remains closed I would hold off on treatment but it may be a good idea to go ahead and get your hands on some ciproflaxin antibiotics. Fish Flox is a typically used cipro unless you have access to a prescription. It's good to have just in case. Read up on cipro treatment for anemones, it's typically a 7 day treatment dosing 25mg per gallon (250mg pill dissolved into 10 gallon of water) in a treatment tank. Large daily water changes are performed typically at night and medicine is redosed at night because light breaks it down. This is brief info, I suggest reading the full sticky on it.

Ok thanks, but now he is occasionally putting some of stomach out of mouth is that still ok as long as he doesn't deflate?

Yes I have a qt, but will it get other inverts infected or just other nems because there is only 1 other nem and it is 3.5' away.

If it is sick it's normally bacteria related and can sometimes clear up with the use of cipro in a qt tank. It is possible to spread and affect other anemone in the display tank.

Up to you but if it's deflating and it's mouth is inverting, most if not all of the time they do not recover from it without treatment.
