Help with Hosting tank raised Clowns.

Hi everyone, been away for 10 years and have restarted a 72 bow. The wife said please can we have Clowns and Anemone . Being that after 30 years married every discussion of such ends in "Yes Dear" , so I relented.!.... Previously had just about eveything but...

This shot is as close as they coming to hosting. Swimming by all the time but only time any closer is trying to steal food when the Anemone is fed. . It has been six months now and this is close to hosting as it gets. Even heard of taping as photo of hosting clowns to the tank side???

Is there any trick or method to get them them to host I am not aware of? Thanks.

First off : those clowns do not naturally host in that anemone.Second :they are tank raised not form the wild. They may host eventually but it can take time. I had a pair like that that took over 1 yr to host in my BTA..
That being what it is :A tomato clown , maroon clown,melanopus (cinnamon) clown would probably dive right in within a few minutes of being in the tank

You have any other fish in that tank?
Looks pretty normal if they are the only two fish.
The pic I see has two clowns staying quite close to the nem, one on the right appears to touch it.....what is your expectation?
Maybe it's just the pics but I would expect after 6 months, they are using something as a host....a heater.....a coral......a rock......some clowns stay almost hidden whereas some are not as close,,but close still.

Now if they never go near it that's a different story than what the pic shows.....

Where do they sleep?

That is as close of a shot they ever get to it. Continually swimming by but never seem to touch. Yes that shot sort of looks like hosting.

Five smaller fish total in this restarted tank and most likely no more . The two Clowns Tailspot , Lawn Mower and Scooter. Thankfully I ran the tank several months building up a tremendous pod population prior to the into of any corals or fish this time around. Plus lots of live rock for the tank size.

Sometimes spend more time night viewing than most looking at the zillions of fresh meals swimming around for the wife's favorite fish the Scooter..... At least having done this before I knew how to prepare the tank to keep a happy and fat Scooter long term. But in all the years long ago Reefing I avoided Anemones , this is the first and was because the wife ask to have one this time around. W

But where do they go after lights out. They should run to their safe spot (which can be anything but generally back corners, heaters.....where do yours go after lights out?

No real tricks ever worked for me, just time.

Now I have had some go immediately, and some took 6 months, 1 took 14 months, but all ended up in the nem.....and I only use BTA.....so not the match for most clowns.

The fact that they can use frogspawn and leathers or anything as a host indicates to me that match is not a deal breaker.

After lights out both always front and center in the tank in a small low flow area. I know the BTA is harder tank a normal Hosting Anemone,.

But like you said of Hosting other corals in the old tank with no Anemone my Maroon wore his fins away getting stung and hosting a huge Pink Pearl Coral .
