hey,

I just got a bunch of Vanuatu Live Rock and found this guy crawling around at night. I think its a snail, but it's unlike any I've seen before. I haven't gotten a decent picture yet so I'm hoping someone can tell by these scribbles:

Thanks,

does it look like a clam or oyster and has hairs comming out of shell? or does it apper as a cone shell like snail?

Neither of those pictures looks like what I have.

After watching it some more last night I saw that the "shell" actually divides longtitudinally into two halves, I can't really see what's inside but it almost appears to be filter feeding. I'll try again tonight to get more pictures.

sorry, I forgot to say that the shell is definitely not a cone shape. The top is flate with a sort of ridge along the edge.

Possibly a Cowrie or a Limpet? The mantle of the snail ususally covers the shell and splits in half when it retracts in. Of course, ignore the colors and the general shape. As a Bio major, you should know these are only representational pictures and actual physical looks varies greatly.

Limpet (Scutus) [You can see the black mantle splitting a little to expose the shell.
