I just got a bunch of Vanuatu Live Rock and found this guy crawling around at night. I think its a snail, but it's unlike any I've seen before. I haven't gotten a decent picture yet so I'm hoping someone can tell by these scribbles:
After watching it some more last night I saw that the "shell" actually divides longtitudinally into two halves, I can't really see what's inside but it almost appears to be filter feeding. I'll try again tonight to get more pictures.
Possibly a Cowrie or a Limpet? The mantle of the snail ususally covers the shell and splits in half when it retracts in. Of course, ignore the colors and the general shape. As a Bio major, you should know these are only representational pictures and actual physical looks varies greatly.
Cowrie
Limpet (Scutus) [You can see the black mantle splitting a little to expose the shell.
