I got a piece of live rock from one of the local stores a few months ago and it looked clean. Over the last couple of months though, there are small polyps of some sort growing off of it. They look like a cross between a zoa and an anemone, so I don't know what to make of them. The larger ones are up to 1/2 inch wide and then there are many smaller ones. Any thoughts on what these are? I did my best on the pics, but they are on the bottom of my tank on the side and back of a rock.

That was my worry and I was hoping not. How bad are majanos really? If they are on an isolated rock are they ok or will they freely move like others?

Burn them with fire. Joking, but really remove the rock to keep them from spreading.

They probably won't move...but will multiply n spread like wildfire!

When I had my 450 up and running, it began to get overtaken with Majanos. I introduced a Raccoon Butterfly and that took care of the issue. However, those Butterflies are a risk when it comes to picking at corals and other anemones.

Kliens butterfly would be a safer bet if. You can't remove the rock. Keep in mind, if you ever remove the fish, there may be remnants of the mojanoes that may repopulate the tank.

I picked up a kleins to work on some aptasia. The lil fart hasn't touched one of them. Hasn't even messed with any of the mini feather dusters in the tank.
But boy, he does love the nori.. :headwally:

For Aiptasia, I've always had good luck with Peppermint Shrimp from Premium Aquatics or Reeftopia. I've had mixed luck with Peppermints from other sources.

I've had pretty good luck filling an insulin syringe with lemon juice and injecting a bunch into them. The lemon juice should be fine in the tank too, IIRC
