Help with interceptor dosage

Well, I just discovered yesterday that a few of my acro colonies have red bugs and I am planning on dosing the entire tank with interceptor very soon. I have read multiple articles with conflicting dosage amounts and I was hoping to get a recommendation on the dosage amount for a 54.4 gallon (net volume) system. I was considering doubling the recommended dose as I have heard of no ill effects when this is done. (thoughts?) I will be using the 51-100lb variety of interceptor, as recommended by many red bug articles. I also plan on removing as many hermits and acro crabs as possible before treatment so they can be reintroduced after the water change and carbon replacement.

Thanks,
Keith

I read somewhere you should leave it in for 6 hrs, then do a water change. That is what I did with 3 separate treatment a week apart. Took care of my rb's. I have read also that some people just leave it in with out doing a water change as it loses it's potency and is skimmed out. I haven't tried it though.

Some people leave it in there for a week with no side effects. It is recommended to change 10-20% water after 24 hours. Do treatment 3 times if you want to be safe, think it was once a week or it was once every 3 days, forgot.

Thanks for the help everyone. I am about halfway into my first treatment and so far the only loss was my cleaner shrimp and hopefully the red bugs. (Its a bummer but my mystery wrasse helped clean up and I'd rather rid my tank of red bugs than keep the shrimp)

The last time I treated mine(which has about 55 gal gross) I just used a heaping salifert spoonful. Then I left it in, will no ill affects what so ever. that was the 3rd treatment. No more bugs so far. & never even lost a hermit after times 2 & three. I lost 2 on the 1st treatment. Only left them in as I had no where to put them. I took out the carbon & changed it though. Also weekly WC change was done 4 days after last treatment.

Please updates thread asi am getting ready to treat and would like to know your results

I only completed two doses using 1/4 of a pill each time. (Treatments are so easy that if any future problems arise I can quickly dose my system) My cleaner shrimp died the first treatment and I lost the majority of my hermit crabs by the end of the second treatment, but I am now red bug free. My SPS are coloring up nicely and have great polyp extension.

Best of luck,
Keith

So did you leave the interceptor in your system without a water change...just replaced carbon and started skimming after some time?

I'm ready to treat my 120G tank now. About 100 gallons total minus the rocks and plus the sump area. So with the recommended dosage above, I should use 1/2 pill. Will see how it goes.

Make sure you leave your skimmer running, but turn the air to it off....that way the interceptor will run in the skimmer body. I honestly never did a water change after I treated my tank. Just turned the air to the skimmer back on and added carbon, all red bugs were history. My SPS have been growing like crazy since.
