help with majanos

This is probably not the right forum, as I have a problem with majanos, NOT a love for them. But they are everywhere and stinging my button polyps and generally not making anyone happy.

I know how to use kalk or joe's juice.

Can anyone recommend the best way (kalk, joe's) OR is there is any natural feeder such as a butterfly fish or something for majanos.

butterfly fish will eat all your corals

best way to kill them is to use kalk in a joes juice type injector turn all the powerheads off so the kalk can get a chance to melt them i wait an hour or two then turn the water off

i also hate mojano anemones

problem is---they wheedled their way into my colonies of zoos and button polyps--slight miss, and I kill the coral. On bare rock--no problems.

take out the rock and use a razor and a small screwdriver to scrape them off

Man, I can beat you on that strategy. On bare rock that can be removed from tank, lift out of tank, use fireplace long-nose lighter, burn majano 15 seconds. Works like a charm, and easy easy easy. Most of the time no return of majano. Rock recovers pretty quickly and easily, no adverse effects (at least not for me).

Again, where I'm having the biggest problem is when the things grow in my soft corals.

I'm desperate and jealous regarding aptaisia--at least there are potential natural predators. (Knock on wood, I have NO aptasia in any of my 4 reef tanks. Call meluck)

But majanos-is there really NO natural enemy?

I lost all of my exotic sps because of them. I lost some nice clams to them as well. I hate them with a passion. Even now I cannot get rid of them in my main tank which I pretty much gave up on cept for one last clam and a couple fishes/inverts. I might try that fireplace lighter. Where can i get one?

sounds like you need to either cook your rocks or get new rock

reason i don't want to cook it is because i don't want to kill off all the life. there's a lot of cool stuff on my rocks and i want to keep them all for my new tank. but before that i have to get rid of the anemones.

It's just a lighter with a long nose--around 4 inches or so. Issey is right, not great for the rock. However, about once per minute after I burn majanos, i redip the rock in the water to keep it alive.
So the damage is to the rock area where the majano was--say a circle one inch diameter. I do as many as 10-15 majanos per day, not more to introduce too much organic matter to tank.

Yeah, I have heard great success from butterflys, but as mentioned, they aren't picky...they really don't care if it is a mojano or a coral...if it's there, they'll eat it...

No natural predators that are considered reef safe that I have heard of...possibly at some point.

Yeah, aiptasia is easy, peppermints, copperbands, and the ever-loved, hardly found berghias.

Your best bet at this point is Joe's Juice. I have actually noticed that it does not harm my zoanthids that bad...if you spray it on them, it will not be good, but once you get the to close up, you can shoot away with minimal effect on them. that being said, I wouldn't purposefully cover them in JJ, but at the same time, doesn't seem to harm their outer skin.

The same cannot be said for mushrooms and ricordeas...they do not like JJ AT ALL!!! Trust me on this one.

hey cschweitzer do you kno wwhat kind of butterflys eat them? Or do they all eat mojanos? I think I would get a butterfly so I don't have to use any chemicals in my tank. I have enough mojanos to last a butterfly fish a whole year.
