Help with MP40

I just purchased a an MP40 for my 72 gal 4 ft wide mixed reef. Setup was easy but it now seems that my fish only stay on the far half of my tank. It is only set to about 4 but the fish seem to stay far away.
I would lower the speed it but I don't think much flow is making it all of the way to far side of the tank.
Any ideas?
Another question is do I need a Slave to get the full benefit of the EcoSmart modes?

I have an MP40 on my 4ft 67 gallon and I have it set to the LED #4 because if I do any more it moves the sand around. I think 2xMP40's is best since you can have more water movement with less sand movement.

Also when it comes to fish and these pumps... I think it best they stay away. I've found a dead cardinal stuck to the intake side of the pump.

I am not having any sand issues with it. I have the pump about 6 inches below the water line.
I set it to Lagoon Random and this seems to be a better since it goes from strong to slow. It is set to 5 right now.

I have 2 mp40's on a 75 gal (48x18x24) on about 80% reef crest. I have 2 clowns, 2 small tangs, a spotted mandarin, and a small goby. None of which seem to mind me blasting them with ~2500gph each... The mandarin will even get up near it when it's roaming around and it will turn all the way up and he struggles but swims away easily.

Yeah my 67 is only 18" deep... so not sure if that's why I'm having issues. I have it on Nutrient Transport mode.
