We recently moved our sump to the basement and in the process switched to a new return pump. Ultimately this pump was turning the tank over less than the original and we started to get some black buildup on the sand as well as cyano. This weekend we bumped the power heads up to account for this and while we were at it, decided to increase flow within the sump as well since it was a little stagnant.
In doing so, the detritus that was built up in the sump got kicked up and flushed out into the tank. We increased skimming and added filter socks to remedy this moving forward.
At the same time the (original) pump we added to circulate the sump had a failure in it's wiring and gave me a nice little shock ... Quickly replaced with something else.
So within hours the tank got hit with a detritus storm and a little electricity flow.
We noticed almost all corals (lps, leathers, zoos) and the 8 BTAs within the tank closed up/shriveled.
The acans have all bounced back better than ever, zoos are starting to open. The leathers are still upset and so is the torch
The BTAs have slowly started to perk back up but are nowhere near filling out the way they did prior and they are now much lighter green in color.
Are they still trying to recover from the series of events ... Was it the detritus that ****ed them off ... Anything else we can do to help them along?
