Yes,that method can work.If they do not seem to be eating the cyclopeeze,i would try the small pieces of food.You don't really have to hold the food near the mouth.I recommend trying different things to see which one gives you the best results.
I don't agree that feeding a very stressed coral is a very advisable route. Digestion of food is something that can cause more stress to a coral that is already in bad shape. I doubt they would even react to food, if they stll look like they do in your last pic.
