Help with my new light, please help

I bought the coralife pro metal halide 24" light. Well I just got in in the mail today and it is awesome. I oredered a 25 gal tank that should be in today for the new light. The light is 24" and the tank is 24" so i figured it is the perfect size. Well the light is really wide and i don't think it will fit the tank due to how wide the light is. The light is 15" wide and the tank is 12" wide, with he mounting brackets it's even wider. what do i do, did i do the brackets wrong, do you think it will fit? What do i do, hanging fromt he celing isn't a option. The 25 gal tank has the same demetions as the 20 gal high, just taller. Here is some pics, please help me...

I think you could still use this fixture, it may look a little funny on the tank, but its what is in the tank that matters.

Do you have acess to small pieces of acrylic? You could basically glue some pieces of black acrylic to those mouting legs such that there is one long mounting leg along the short side of the aquarium. If you were to glue it in a very long "L" shape, it would be extremely sturdy and help it stay on the tank. Does that make any sense??
If my big dumb rottie bumped a small tank/stand with a fixture just set on there, he may knock it off.... could happen.... may not be likely, but possible.
 
Amber, is there a way to reverse those legs? You know, so they bow in, instead of out? That would be the easiest fix if it is possible.
 
how about getting some shelf brackets and hang it from the wall. is that possible? there has to be a way... that is a sweet looking fixture.
 
That particular light would fit perfect on a Oceanic Cube. Met a local reefer that had the same light on a 20 gallon but did not notice it hanging off the back. 15" width are 29 gallon and up but they would be too long for that light. I'm gonna check w/ a friend about his set up and get back to ya.
 
yeah i swear i have seen them on 20 Gal too, i just don't know how they did it. It's 24" so i figured it would work lol. I'm probally going to glue some acrylic on the back edges or something like that so that the legs can sit on that. I would really like to know how the others with 24"x12" tanks have it on their tanks though, so please keep me updated :D

Amber i am so sorry, i have been looking these last two days (i was on call with nothing else to do!) i spent like 5 hours...i cant find that post. i am sorry. I am sure you can figure something out that light is too good to pass up!!

How is it going with that lighting fixture, if you reverse the legs so they bow inward does it work?

It looks like a great fixture, what do those run?
 
yeah i love the light, it's sooo bad *** :D I payed around $360 with shipping on ebay for the 24" On marine depot ect. it would have probally cost me over $400 including the shipping.

Well, I picked up the tank and with the legs inverted it wouldn't work at all. And like i figued the fixture is too wide. Here is a pic of the fexture next to the tank. I really love this tank by the way, wonder why more people don't have 25 gals, it's even taller than most other tanks 29gal, ect..., it's 20" high

But I think my hasband came up with a good idea about the light problem. Normally he's not very much of a "handy man" but i think he was pretty smart this time lol

We are going to pick up 2, 2x4s and run each one from the floor to the top of the tank on the back of the tank and stand. Well the top of the wood should be flush with the edge of the tank and we will screw it into the stand to it will be really sturdy and even have the floor as support too. I don't know if you guys quite understand what i'm talking about, but i'll get pics when we do it, i'm going to paint the wood black too so it will look good and match the tank.
 
run a piece of 3/8-1/2"/1" black acrylic between the two legs on each side (front to back). This will bridge the gap between the legs and will allow it to sit on the rim of the tank, then glue a piece of thin flat acrylic to the side of this black piece and have it extend down so that it does not allow the light to slide from side to side. Basicall look at the feet on the light already, Replicate the bottom of them but make it a rail that runs inbetween the front and back legs, this will artificially extend the end of the tank.
