What is the size of the skimmer? Itried to look it up but was not sure which one.

The design is fine. My concern, having just done one, would be actual space to do it and not end up with too tiny of a refugium. You need ~5" for the middle section for the pump. ~2" for the bubble trap. Add in xx" for the simmer any you are left with how much?

To add to Michael's thoughts, the center return section needs to be big enough that it doesn't evaporate down so much in a day to cause issues (you might be surprised how much evaporation you can experience in an open top 55 in 24 hours). ATO would help with this a lot. Also make sure to make it big enough to support any pumps you might use in the future (ie, also go bigger than you think you need for the return section).

Also, to simplify things, you might ditch the right side of the drain and simply feed the refugium off of the return. It would simplify everything.

ok guys heres my skimmer http://www.proteinskimmer.com/Product Pages/Remora.htm it wont take up space since it would sit out side the tank and i only need to allow enough space to fit the maxi jet 1200,so maybe only needing maybe 4 inches? say maybe about 2 inches for the bubble trap and maybe like 6 inches for the return area? that would leave around 12 inches for the fuge area?........its what im thinking anyways, anymore thoughts guys?

The top off issue raised is a good one. You could cut the fuge area to 10 or 8 inches and still be fine.

Good ideas so far. I am going to be using the same concept for the sump on my 90. The reason there are two drains into the sump is so you can restrict the flow through the fuge, make it go a little slower. If I don't do it like that I will probably do a remote fuge but with the same scheme.

yup i think thats the way i wanna do this, anythings better then this biowheel lol though once up and running im gonna try to sell it

hey guys i was wondering is ya think one over flow on each side of my tank would help with cleaning the water faster then just one on one end, also if anyone has one dor sale i'll buy it from ya,also needing help figuring out the size of the tubing ill need and should i use hard pvc or heavy duty bendable plastic and would that make any difference with noise of the water running through it and if i do that i dont think i can install ball valves,if thats the case then ill do pvc,i know and understand about the noise once its in the sump area and thats a different story...thanks

Plans look great, but I would agree with some others to raise up the baffles in the return section . I did the exact set up and it works fine....... and no, the COWBOYS beat you!
Merry Christmas my friend!
