When I started my tank, I soaked all the rocks in 3% H2O2 for 30 min before cycling. That really helped keep the green algae off as I have none in my tank for almost 10 months. Just a suggestion.
Sorry, I wasn't clear on that. Hydrogen peroxide that you can buy from CVS and Walgreens are available in 3% concentration. What I did was to make a 50:50 solution of 3% H2O2 with equal part of water and soaked the rocks in that solution.

I did wash my Tropic of Eden Reeflakes but I found out the rinsed water was clear after just one rinse so I didn't wash it further. I guess it is up to you but I don't see any con with rinsing it once or twice.
Did you use RODI water to rinse it or tap?
