Help with new 125 gallon build

From the description on Craiglist, I am sure the height of the tank is 17" not 12.5". I think you are good to go if it can fit underneath your display tank and your protein skimmer can go in and out easily. Are you going to use a submersible pump as your return pump?

I guess i am open to either one. Another question would be if the glass is tempered or not so that it can be drilled for an external pump.

Simon, i really like the way you did your plumbing on your build and would like to mirror that setup. Would it be easy to create the baffles? I don't have the tools to cut these myself so i would have to have it done.

The side panels on most of the standard tanks are not tempered so they can be drilled. If you decide on an external pump, you are pretty much limited to place the pump at the end of the sump tank as there will be only about 3-4" space in the front.

That skimmer and sump combination looks pretty good actually. The skimmer is skinny and needs taller water as well. I'd still be a little worried about how easy it is to take that skimmer out, is the top plank on the stand a 2x6? I'd go for an internal pump, unless the tank is sitting somewhere warm. Internal pumps tend to run hotter.

BM Nac 7 is about 16" tall without the collection cup so your 28" stand height should be adequate to get it in and out without too much trouble.

I was more worried about it being too wide to get it over the wall. The stand itself may be 28", but that's not what it is inside. There's also a top ledge over the top.

The foot print of the Nac 7 is about 9.5" x8". If you lift the PS up horizontally to go over the sump tank, you will need about 25-27" to slide it out. It will be tight with the top ledge cutting down on the height of the opening.

Perhaps i should go with a different skimmer, anyone have any suggestions?

When I was searching for a small foot print skimmer, BM is among the smallest that I could find. Good luck with your search.

Ok, i've taken some more precise measurments of the inside of my cabinet. Here is what i have:

Length: 71.2"
Width: 17.2"
Height: 28.7"

From the inside bottom of the cabinet to the to front ledge of the opening it is 26.4" and the actuall opening itself is 24". Here are some pictures:

If you leave enough space on the side of it, then you could take the skimmer out of the sump but still inside the stand, then easily move it out of the stand.

That sounds like a good idea, so i basically need to find a out of sump skimmer now. The seller replied to me and yes it is 12.5" width by 17" height.

tassod,
I still think you have enough head room to insert and remove the BM Nac 7. Since the PS is cone shape and you will have the collection cup remove first. You should be able to wiggle it in and out without any problem. See drawing below.

Wow thanks for the visual Simon. Ok i'm convinced the in sump BM NAC7 should be fine. I'm going to arrange to pick up this tank for my sump. From there comes the part of configuring and installing the baffles in the sump. :uhoh2:

Not having a good night...Just found out my Eshine LED's were delivered to another house and signed by someone who i have no idea who they are..:uzi::uzi: This is such a bummer...I really hope these show up, i've emailed Eshine customer service and called DHL to report the problem.
