Help with new 125 gallon build

Hey guys, i picked up a RBTA yesterday and placed him on the top on my rock. He looked good there and seemed to attach himself. Well this morning and even now, its nowhere to be found...cant see it anywhere...what gives??

RBTA or any anemone will move around until they find a spot that they like. It is likely it has moved behind the rock.

He must have shrunk and burried himself real well because i just can't see him anywhere. No corals have been knocked over so i am assuming he just went into the branches of the rock he was sitting on. How long will he hide for?

My green long tenticle has settled its foot exactly where i put him and seems to be doing fine...wonder why this RBTA would be so stressed. Salinity from LFS to my tank is identical.

There's a lot more than salinity. Temperature, pH, lighting, Nitrates. Anything could be ****ing him off.

The guys over at Reef imports are awesome and were willing to replace the RBTA. Hopefully the new one adjusts better. I placed him a little lower but because my rock is branchy, he's sucked himself in as far as he could and is just sitting there now. That's kind of what the first one did....

The new RBTA settled in back of that rock for now but the good thing is my clowns found him and hosted it! Thats a good sign. Hopefully he moves somewhere in front of the tank..

I also picked up a blue maxima clam, he's about 6" in length. I read they do not like to be on substrate so I placed him on a piece of rock on the sand. Simon, will the lights I have be adequate for him? Here are some pics:

Beautiful Maxima! I have two clams, one in each tank, both sit on substrate for years without any issue. I think you light will be fine. Mantle extension is always a good sign that it is converting light energy into food.

The maxima fell off that rock so I just put him on the sand and seems to be doing fine. How are things going with your tank Simon?

Those are awesome pics Simon, nice to see everything thriving. Do you have some tips for everything to run smoothly if I were to be away for a few days?

I don't know of any tips except to keep up with maintenance and monitor the key parameters. When you are away, just keep your fingers crossed and hope nothing bad will happen. If your Apex can send you condition of your tank with Temp and Ph to your smartphone, that may give you some peace of mind. A wifi web cam pointing at your tank let you see your fish swiming around which means you still have water in the tank and not on your floor:lol2:

Yup, got the webcam and Apex is setup to send me alerts. Also have leak detection module if any water on the floor. I will have 30 gallons of ATO ready so that should be plenty for a week or so. Autofeeder also all setup so I think i should be good to go. Only thing is i cannot monitor my powder brown tang in the QT right now...well hopefully he will be fine. Going to setup an autofeeder there also and i got an ATO for that to.

Simon, up until now i have been doing weekly water changes...about 20%. Decided to start doing them every 2 weeks now. Is it a big deal if I go over 2 week mark by a few days or should i not chance it and do a water change before going away? I have been doing my water changes every Saturday.

When I started my 92g tank I did 5%-10% water change every week. Now I do it about every 2 weeks for 15-20%. I don't stick to the same day just whenever I have time. If I am not home for a few days and it is close to water change day, I do it before I leave. One thing I learned is don't do it the day you leave because you want to have enough time to observe your tank after a water change especially the protein skimmer. Sometime the protein skimmer goes crazy after a water change and you want to give it enough time to settle down. Also the drain takes time to achieve full siphon after you shut off your return pump during a water change and you may want to be there to adjust the gate valve so you don't rely on your emergency drain when you are not there. In other words, I want the system to run smoothly before I leave home.

When i do my water change and everything is full again and running, I remove part of the drain that is submerged in the sump to let the air out and get full siphon right away, i don't wait for it to do it on its own. Also on my skimmer, i've extended the drain tube line to a separate 1 gallon container so it takes a while for that to fill up. Think i'm just going to leave it this time around and do a change when i return, not going to have enough time to do it before hand.
