how do I stop the shlirping. i have an elbow on it and everything....
help with overflow noise.

constant, cause the water level in the overflow is like 3/4 the way up the pipe... so it is constantly sucking in water

I use a stockman style for my drainpipe, same concept as a durso but a bit more compact. If the air-hole(siphon break) is too small the water level will rise and fall in the overflow. My friends tank had the intake too high in the overflow, caused a whirlpool that happily sucked in air and made that nice toilet flushing sound... constantly. Are you using a durso now? I see something about an elbow but not sure how it is setup.

idk what durso means. the level is constant, put like the elbow and water level is like this. water level is a LITTLE higher... it is a pipe with an elbow on it INSIDE the box.

Most people make the drain pipe just go straight down on their first uninformed try. The trouble with that is that either it periodically gurgles, like when you empty a jug that doesn't have a vent hole, or it slows the flow down (which is just an infrequent gurgle).
You fix it the same way you fix a jug without an air hole - you make an air hole. In the photo, the tall part of the pipe has a hole on the top that can't be flooded with water.
Before I had a proper durso-esque overflow pipe and also later when the air hole wasn't big enough, I'd have the water backup like you're describing. A quick fix for me was to just shut the pump off and let the pipe empty and it would work for awhile, or sometimes if you put airline tubing into the pipe with the other end in the air it would resolve it temporarily.

hmm im not quite getting it, there is no way that would fit in my overflow. width wise...

You can fit Durso's in a HOB overflow. I've got 2 in mine and they have worked perfectly for over a year.
