Help with placement

I have a 120 all glass aquarium. I just got 2 6000's with magnets and a 7095 to use for a mixed tank (some sps, zoa's, acans, torch, trumpet, etc) per Roger's recommendation.

I mounted them on the back walls pointed towards the front center, then one on the back wall and the other near the back but on the side glass and I get a sand storm no matter what I do.

I put the 7095 on interval 2 and put both the min and max at 30% and it still really stirs the sand up. It seems to stir it up most where the 2 streams of water come together. I put it on interval 1 which turns one off and the other on and it is much better. But still moves it around.

I cant imagine what kind of storm the 6100's or 6200's would cause.

Can anyone give advice on how to set these up?

Or maybe I need to get to the next size smaller?

I continued to experiment and I came up with placement that may work. So I wanted to post it.

I put the 6000's back on the back wall and instead of pointing them to the center I pointed each one to about the 1/4 mark on it's own side if that makes sense.

Basically at the 2 bars in the center of my picture above instead of the actual center of the glass. I guess having both streams of water come together was to much for my newer sandbed to handle.

Is everything worked out? You might try front corners to back center as the live rock will diffuse the flow and may prevent the sand storm.

I have a very similar probem. I have 4 6000's in my 180 gallon tank. I too have the settings on 30% with my multicontroller. Althought I figured otu a good placement, the sand will shift over a 4 day period. Can I buy some accessory or screen to put in the inside cover to diffuse the flow even more?

So far so good Roger. I am going to let it settle for a few days and start cranking up the 'max' on interval 2 to see what I can get away with.

I like the front corner idea as well. Not the most pretty install but sometimes functionality comes before looks.

One question about that setup...... How far away would you have to get the 6000 from any corals? I would assume to strong of direct flow from to short a distance could cause issues...?

It all depends on the coral, a frogspawn may need to be on the far end of the tank but once acclimated, many acros could be 6" away.
