Help with plumbing tanks

I need some help. I am going to attempt to plumb a 30 gallon and a twenty gallon together. The thirty gallon is on the top of the stand and the twenty is on the bottom. I have a pump and understand how to run pipes to the top tank from the twenty and everything but how do u make the return? Do I need an overflow? Will i have to cut holes in the tank? If I do have to drill holes how do u do it? If u have pictures of ur plumbing and etc. could u please share them. Thanks in advance.

Hey what part of PA are you from? You will need an overflow or drill the tank. I just bought a drill bit off of ebay and am about to do mine. There is a post somewhere on here that has the drill size for the bulkhead. As for drilling, you can either use a diamond tipped hole saw or a dremel with a tile cutting bit. Choice is yours.

I am from Johnstown, Altoona area in central PA about an hour and a half from Pittsburgh. Thank you for the advice. I just purchased a diamond head bit and will probably drill holes tonight. I found a lot of info in the other forum My First Tank Drilling Experience (20 gallon long).

My roomate was from johnstown. Go slow and make sure you irrigate it and you should be fine. Im waiting for mine, should be here next week sometime. Good luck!
