Obligate Feeder Obsessed
just picked up a copperband butterfly today, and i'm wondering about some white spots presenting on the dorsal and tail fins.

my first thought was ich, but i'm also curious if it could be the start of lymphocytosis, as i understand these guys can be prone to that during stress conditions. i didn't notice it at the store, but i can't rule out that i was just not being observant.

so i guess what i am looking for is a way to differentiate the two conditions. he's in the start of TTM right now, so hopefully whichever it is will be dealt with in short order. he's not scratching or flashing. not eating yet, but he's had a long day.

apologies in advance for the picture quality. for what it's worth these appear more as "inclusions" in the fin, than lumps or raised areas on the surface. otherwise the fish looks like it is in fairly good shape. not nearly as skinny as many i have seen some through the LFS in the past, and seems bright, alert, and responsive.

i will try to get a better picture tomorrow when i have more light.

for some reason the AI Nano i have is blowing up the camera on my phone with blue.

thank you for the help. cheers!

TTM is always a good idea as is Prazipro. Lymphocystis is persistent whereas ich is transitory.

so i wanted to give an update on this situation:

i unfortunately lost this fish about 5 days in to TTM. i just couldn't get him eating. he showed no interest in anything. i figured this might be the case when i got him at the store, because he wasn't eating there, but i figured i was as well equipped as anyone to try to get him to turn around, and that it would be worth a shot rather than leaving him at the LFS.

i tried:

live white worms
nutramar ova
pe myses
pellets
fresh live clams
reef frenzy
freshly hatched baby brine

all either straight up, or soaked in selcon. sadly to no avail.

i spent the next two weeks or so trying to track down another Copperband locally, and finally found one at the third LFS i tried. he was eating nicely in their tank, so i brought him home and started TTM with him and prazi.

the new CBB had similar cloudy inclusions in his caudal and pectoral fins, however these went away entirely after the third transfer and several days of prazi.

so i'm still not sure what they were, although it seems likely they were not ich, since two different fish, from two different sources exhibited similar symptoms.

i'm happy to report that the new CBB eats everything i put in the tank with gusto, and as he is nearing the end of TTM and is looking quite good.
