I want to tear down my display and turn it into a bare bottom tank. I have a couple of questions, How long can I safely keep things in buckets? What do you all recommend to put on the glass bottom to protect it? While this is down should I scrub everything? Since I have big sump would it be okay to bake my life rock in my display? Thanks for the help

What is it you're planning on keeping in buckets and for how long do you want to keep it there?

Many folks use "Starboard" in the bottoms of their bare bottom tanks.

Define "everything" as it relates to scrubbing. If you mean the tank then no problem.

If by baking you mean cooking then as long as you can keep it dark in your display you can cook it in there. Something to consider is that to properly cook rock can take well over a month.

Fish and corals in buckets, I want to keep them in the buckets but could put them in the sump in the basement if need be. The reason I don't want to put them down there is they will be a pain to catch again.

For Scrubbing I want to clean the tank, and possibly some of the live rock to remove aiptasia.

You're right I mean cooking. I got nothing but time for that one, I am going to be back from school for some time. I just want to try and get ride of most of the aiptasia.

I don't think I would be scrubbing on aiptasia too much. Each little piece that breaks off or that could be left after the scrubbing could potentially make nother aiptasia. You could actually make them multiply.

I think you'd be cooking your rock for months before a single aiptasia would die. They are especially tough.

I think the least amount of time in a bucket would be recommended for your fish. No need to stress them more than absolutely necessary. Your corals could probably not care less where they are as long as they are propery cared for and given the amount of light that they need.
