Help with sand please!

Hmmmm, I don't know. For the cost of everything else you will be buying, IMO, I would not. I want what is from the natural environment into my tank.

I heard that sandbox sand is not recommended for use in reef tanks. I think it clumps up too much causing nutrient issues in the long run. Some one with more knowledge can probably explain more.

Certain sand at home depot is reef safe do a search for the way to test it with vinigar I believe if it fizzles its ok but dont count on that. also dont use anything colored white only

oh, i was looking for what Gary said was good...and it's really, really white....he just posted a couple days ago....

Is it safe to use the "high desert play sand" from lowes?

This is exactly what I used prior to moving the tank to a different location in the house. It worked perfectly fine. The reason I didn't use it in the rebuild is because after a few months go by you're left looking at cubey, crystally grains and I didn't think it looked natural at all. That said, the stuff is certainly cheap enough that you could change it out when it starts looking rough. I just didn't want to be bothered with having to do that all the time. :)
