Help with skimmer

I bought a aqauc ev-120. for my 55 gallon tank. I have it in a 40 gallon sump. How long should it run befor it starts producing foam?

This is from their manual...

"Do not be surprised if your skimmer requires a few days to producing foam. Trace quantities of oils within the skimmer
will initially prevent foam from building properly."

I know. I read it. I was wondering if they always take that long.
Just getting excited. Should I leave it running wide open? Sure is getting a lot of bubbles in the tank

Don't think you need to run it with the air wide open. Shut it down a little so there's barely any bubbles in the tank.

The air valve should be fully open, unless you have an upgraded, higher sized pump on it and are running it full bore. I just "tuned" the pump down some and left the valve open and I get a thick, stable foam.

I have that skimmer, and it took several days to get going. leave everything wide open as long as the water level inside the box is at an appropriate height (per the instructions)

If it's low, then you'll need to close down the gate valve a bit to raise it up, if too high, tune down the pump just a bit.

Leave the air wide open until you start to see foam generated.

The bubbles are a lot worse when it's not broken in, as the foam starts to get going, the bubbles in the output seem to reduce.

I'm running mine with the Dolphin DP-560 pump and running it external to my sump.
