HELP WITH SNAIL and ID this thing...

I've had this guy for almost a month now and ZERO issues. I noticed last night he was behaving oddly and coming out of his shell more than normal and now he seems t. Be totally lethargic and moving at a snail's pace. (No pun intended, he usually zips around)...is he sick/dying? All my parameters are in check and I haven't changed anything in the tank except for adding a DIY a copopod hotel.

Also, does anyone know what the hell. This is? My lfs has no idea and so I cut a corner off it to see if it was eggs...it's very squishy and not sure if alarming or not.

Pics not working, but if it's a new tank, chances are algae is just starting to develop, and he's slowing down to actually grab a bite to eat now. If it was a new tank, he was probably speeding around because he had no reason to pace himself
